Great Horned Owl by RamageArt Great Horned Owl by RamageArt
Great Horned Owl 18" X 3'

This is one of my favorite 3-D pieces. As with my other 3-D pieces, there is no glue holding this together. It has gone through a couple of revisions and I really like how it turned out. Great Horned Owls are my absolute favorite bird of prey. This one will be on display at the 2013 California State Fair along with my T-Rex, TIE Interceptor and a Black Scorpion.

Hi dx

I have sold some of my segmentation pieces, but not the 3-D stuff yet. I am trying to get patents on the designs because I have seen people sell plans that were not originally theirs. The other thing is once I finish one project I am on to the next. Talk to you later, Don

You're very welcome. It's absolutely beautiful, I don't think I would have the patience or skill for something like that, I prefer to work in the world of 2-D so I always admire a 3-D piece that turned out so well. I'd love to see the tiger head when it's finished and, though I'm not familiar with Dr. Who or his villains I'd be interested in seeing those as well. Have a great day!

Hi Klieo,

It is a big challenge to design the 3-d pieces, some are easier than others. The prototype of every project doesn't quite look right, the owl went through three revisions, mainly the body...the wings always looked great. The Tiger Head I have been putting off for a while because I know it is going to be hard, but now that the owl is done, I'm going to tackle it. My owl has generated more views and comments than any of my other pieces combined. As for Dr. Who, you can google image search for "the Silence" and "Cybermen" see what I will be doing, and it will only be their heads. Talk to you later, Don

Don,
I can imagine. All I know is that I've never been particularly skilled in the area of 3-D and even though I find it beautiful, I don't think it's for me. It's easy to see why this owl has generated so many views and comments and I can't wait to see the finished tiger head. Best of luck and I'll watch out for your next works of art, Klieo

Hello again,

I really enjoy the 3-D projects, to be able to take a flat sheet of plywood and make something freestanding is intoxicating. Once I finish one, I start on another to try and outdo the last one. I have been interested in 3-D for about 7 years, mainly making stuff for Halloween, Gargoyles and skeletons. But for the last several years have been concentrating on the segmentation art. Then last summer I started on the Alien Skeleton for Halloween. When I was done, this switch kind of turned on in my head and I started coming up with all these ideas for 3-D stuff. Seriously, I have about 15 things in my head I want to make and can't decide which one to start first. Talk to you later, Don

Hello back,
I'd love to be able to do the same yet I feel its not really where my talent lies. I feel the same way about my art. To see it as it develops through a series of lines and shading, turning it from a blank piece of paper into something that looks like the photograph, to know that I did that myself, is, as you say, intoxicating. Fortunately I discovered my talent early and I've been drawing pretty much since I could hold a crayon. It's hilarious and amazing though to see my art go from a chicken nugget with limbs to a somewhat frightening cartoon to where I am now (for the best example of my work check out "Selene With Guns" in my gallery). It's fantastic that your skill is unlimited, that it can be used in so many different ways like Halloween decorations. And I have that same problem, I have 1000 different things to draw and I'm never sure which to draw first! Always nice talking to you, Klieo
