Great Horned Owl (Detail) by RamageArt Great Horned Owl (Detail) by RamageArt
Great Horned Owl (Detail)

Closer view of the owl. This piece has generated more interest, views and comments than all my other pieces combined. The "Sneek Peek" of it I posted a while ago got over 4,000 views, I was absolutely amazed. I revised and built this design 3 times before the body looked acurate, with the first two, the body was to short and squatty. One of my next projects will be a 3-D Tiger Head

I find it truly inspiring to know that ordinary people can create something amazing like this. And it proves that we are all full of potential and personality. Great work.

Hi IzzyTwelve,

Thank you for your comment on my Great Horned Owl, it was a lot of fun designing it, along with all the other 3-D pieces.  Each one has it's own challenges.  Coming up I plan on creating a Tiger head, a Ram head (those horns are going to be hard), and maybe a Klingon "Bird of Prey" battle cruiser.  I have several "segmentation" pieces in the planning stage right now too.  I have been working on 3-D pieces for a few years now, but last year I was really inspired to create the dinosaurs, the scorpion and redesign the owl (which was sitting unassembled in a box for the last couple of years).  Good talking to you and look forward to more comments, Don

Hi TheTurnerPack,

Thank you for you comment, I am very pleased with how the owl turned out. I have been working on this design "on and off" for a couple of years and after 3 revisions I finally got the body right. If you want to try doing your own 3-D stuff, start with something small. I studied all kinds of 3-D wood puzzles (the insects and dinosaur bones) and just started working on my own. I have truly been amazed how well these pieces have turned out. Talk to you later, Don

You should sell the patterns.

H Big-Rex

I have been planning on selling plans, but I am trying to get patents on them first. I have seen other people selling plans that were not their own. Talk to you later, Don
